Bengals had a banner year - literally

Tamarac junior setter Sarah Malsch dives for a dig during practice Wednesday afternoon in the Tamarac High School gymnasium. The Bengals, 2009 Wasaren League champions, will get a new banner in the gym for the volleyball program, which won its first league title in school history. (Photos by Mike McMahon - The Record).

Senior captain Taylor Monahan bumps the ball during Wednesday's practice. The libero has guided the Bengals to a 15-2 record this season.

Junior outside hitter Nancy Vickerson, the reigning Wasaren League MVP, practices Wednesday. The Bengals play a non-league match against Loudonville Christian on Monday before learning their draw in the Section II Class C playoffs Thursday. A season ago, the Bengals earned the No. 9 seed, beat No. 8 Schenectady Christian in the first round before falling to No. 1 Lake George in the quarterfinal round.

First-year varsity head coach Judy Burton watches Zysnia Osepa (foreground) during Wednesday's practice. Burton, who had coached at the modified and junior varsity levels the past two years, was familiar with most of the players on the team before the season started.
