Troy streak snapped, but Flying Horses still win; Section II playoff schedule

Troy junior quarterback Brian Marsh puts a stiff arm to Niskayuna's Nick Schuler during the third quarter of Saturday's game en route to a 19-yard touchdown scamper. Troy allowed points for the first time in 24 quarters of play, but kept their win streak intact with a 35-7 victory over the Silver Warriors. (All photos by J.S. Carras - The Record).

Troy's Jordan Canzeri (34) leaps over the Niskayuna defenders behind the blocking of junior fullback Kyle Geraci (44). Canzeri piled up 103 yards on 16 carries and also added a 52-yard punt return in the first quarter.

Troy's Shatiek Lewis flies by the Niskayuna tacklers. Lewis led all rushers with 108 yards on 10 attempts, scoring three touchdowns.

Troy's Ian Blair knocks Niskayuna's John-Michael Fragnoli to the ground during Saturday's game. The Troy secondary intercepted Niskayuna quarterback Kyle Bayly five times in the game and also forced a fumble.

Salem 2-4, 2-5
Whitehall 0-7, 0-7

What we know:
Spa Catholic, Warrensburg, Fort Edward and Salem all finished with 2-4 or 2-5 records (essentially a tie because of unbalanced schedules). There is no discernible head-to-head advantage, although Fort Edward lost games to Warrensburg and Spa Catholic.
Salem and Spa Catholic had a win, a loss and a did not play against the other three teams, while Warrensburg beat Fort Edward and did not play Salem or Spa Catholic.

Here are the quarter point standings against Class D competition:
Spa Catholic 16.5, Warrensburg 14, Fort Edward 14 and Salem 5 (no report from Saturday's game, which they won 21-20 and even if they earned the maximum of seven, Salem could not catch any of the teams ahead of them).

Right now, I'm not sure who gets in, but it looks like Spa Catholic has the No. 5 seed on quarter points and the No. 6 would come down to Warrensburg and Fort Edward. Since Warrensburg beat Fort Edward head-to-head, I would assume they get the No. 6 seed.

Section II Class D quarterfinals
No. 1 Rensselaer and No. 2 Greenwich, byes (play Class C team in crossover)
No. 3 Lake George vs. No. 6 Warrensburg
(winner plays Greenwich in semis)
No. 4 Gibbons vs. No. 5 Spa Catholic
(winner plays Rensselaer in semis)

Again, these pairings are just estimates until the Section II committee releases its official schedule sometime on Sunday, so check back tomorrow for the official schedule.
