High School Football Special Teams Players of the Year

Mitchell Dickson, Sr. Bishop Maginn - Kicker
Dickson was the second-leading kicker in Section II this season, trailing only Burnt Hills’ Paul Layton. Dickson connected on 34 extra points and four field goals for a total of 46 points. As a running back, he gained over 400 yards of total offense and scored five touchdowns. He also returned kicks and punts.
He was named a Class A Southeast Division first team linebacker and won the 110% award at Bishop Maginn.
Dickson also plays baseball at Maginn and he is planning to major in education in college.

Alex Tesoriero, Jr. Columbia - Punter
Tesoriero made 25 punts this year for 713 yards and held opponents to a 3-yard return average. His longest punt was 56 yards.
Dedicated to kicking, Tesoriero practices in the winter on an artificial surface installed in the basement of his home.
He also made 31 kickoffs for 1,607 yards, averaging 51.8 yards per kick. Tesoriero connected on 15 extra points and also booted three field goals for the Blue Devils.
He gained 349 yards of total offense as a rusher, receiver and returner and scored three total touchdowns.


Paul Ashburn, Sr. Troy -
Kick Returner/All-Purpose

Ashburn did not spend much time roaming the sidelines for the Flying Horses this season.
A two-year captain, Ashburn was a valuable wide receiver. He caught 18 passes for 271 yards. The Class A Southeast Division All-Purpose Player of the Year also returned 19 punts and kickoffs for 293 yards.
Ashburn served as the team’s long snapper on extra points, punts and field goals and aided the defense as a nickelback during passing situations. He also plays basketball at Troy and is interested in majoring in criminal justice in college.
