On the boys side, Shaker hosts crosstown rival Colonie as well as La Salle and Mount Saint Michael's of the Bronx - the No. 11 Class A team in the state. The Grimindl Tournament begins on Monday and is named for legendary Shaker head coach Julius Grimindl. He amassed 304 victories in a career that went from 1958-'80.

The Hilliard Tournament in Schenectady is solid on both the boys and girls fronts.
Saratoga, Guilderland, Niskayuna and Schenectady will clash for the boys.
Burnt Hills, Columbia, Niskayuna and Schenectady meet in the girls bracket.

The Lansingburgh boys take on Bishop Gibbons in an opening round game at the Kirvin Cup Tournament at Mohonasen, which should be an excellent Class A game.

Berlin and Watervliet join Salem in the Hoosick Falls Hoosier Tournament.

The marquee girls tournament begins Saturday at Shenendehowa. The Lady Plainsmen host Suburban Council rival Bethlehem, New York City powerhouse Christ the King and Rochester-area Marietta.

The Colonie girls host Averill Park, Albany and Shaker in a tournament with plenty of Suburban Council flavor.

In a girls tournament at Troy High, the Flying Horses will entertain Catholic Central, Stillwater and Ballston Spa beginning on Monday. Students get in for $1, while adults pay $3. An all-session pass is available for $5.

The Bishop Maginn boys play Niagara Falls, the team they defeated in the 2007-08 New York State Class AA championship game, in Nolan Gymnasium at the College of Saint Rose Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

The Albany Academy boys travel to Orlando to play in the Kaylee Scholarship Association (KSA) Holiday Tournament.
