Troy High girls track and field team caps perfect Big 10 season
SCHENECTADY -- The Troy High girls track team capped a perfect season in the Big 10 Conference Tuesday afternoon as the Flying Horses took home the team title in the Big 10 championships hosted by Schenectady High School.
Bianca Jordan won the 3000 meter run (11:31.2), the 400 meter dash (60.4) and was the first leg of Troy’s winning 4x800 relay team (10:25.5).
Freshman Courtney Avery won the high jump (five feet, zero inches) and pole vault (eight feet, six inches).
Caysie Capano captured first place in the shot put (32 feet, eight and one half inches) and the discus (81 feet, nine inches).
Schenectady finished second as a team, followed by Albany High. The Catholic Central girls placed sixth.
Baseball
Tamarac 4, Stillwater 1: Jon Matala pitched a complete game and struck out seven for the Bengals (3-10, 5-12).
Kyle Bestle drove in the eventual game-winning run with a double in the third inning.
Sean Ritter had three hits for the Warriors (0-13, 1-15) and drove in a run.
CBA 9, Albany 2: Mike Urbanski hit a home run and Casey McPartlon added two RBI for the Brothers (11-2, 14-2) in a rain-shortened Big 10 Conference victory over the Falcons (3-11, 3-12).
Catholic Central 7, Bishop Gibbons 2: Nolan Driscoll went 3-for-3 and pinch-hitter Jack LeRoux drove in two runs for the Crusaders (9-6, 11-6) in a Big 10 Conference victory over the Golden Knights (2-11, 3-12).
Brett Fenton also collected two RBI for CCHS.
Albany Academy 9, Cobleskill 7: Christian Miller earned the win on the mound for the Cadets (8-6, 10-6) in a Colonial Council victory over the Bulldogs (2-12, 3-15).
Softball
Mechanicville 3, Cobleskill 0: Junior Anna Arceneaux struck out 10 and the Red Raiders (12-0, 16-2) remained unbeaten.
Abby Maiello was 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored and Andrea Mastropietro was 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Schenectady 7, Bishop Maginn 0: Leah Van Buren gave up just one hit and struck out nine in the circle for the Patriots (6-4, 9-7). Alexa Lawyer had a triple for Schenectady and Olivia Leach finished with two hits.
Tamarac 3, Stillwater 1: Missy Urkevich tripled, singled and drove in two runs for the Bengals (4-9, 7-11) in a Wasaren League upset over Stillwater (7-6, 9-6).
Tamarac’s Kayla VanAlstyne added two singles and Karri Squadrito doubled and singled.
Boys Lacrosse
Bethlehem 11, Guilderland 6: Eric Halek scored five goals for the Eagles in a Suburban Council victory over the Dutchmen.
