Troy High girls track aiming high

Troy High sprinters Bianca Jordan, Alexis Jordan and Jeanette Williams are coming off such a successful indoor season that the Flying Horses think a Big 10 outdoor championship is in their future. (Photos by Mike McMahon — The Record)

Troy's 800 and 1,600-meter relay teams broke 24-year old school records during the indoor season with times of 1:53 and 4:22 respectively. Jeanette Williams, Lauren Cooney and twin sisters Bianca and Alexis Jordan ran the legs on both record-setting indoor teams.

Outdoor season brings new challenges, though and an important part of that team will no longer be there to run her leg. Lauren Cooney will spend her spring season on the softball field leaving Troy's impressive relay squad one sprinter short.

This doesn't have them worried , though. In fact, it's a challenge the Horses are excited to tackle.

“It always works out,” junior Bianca Jordan said. “I think outdoor season we can usually run better times than indoor.”

Bianca Jordan, Alexis Jordan and Jeanette Williams work on passing the baton. The trio is expected to form several of the top relay teams in Section II.

Look for Ryan's high school track and field stories every Friday in The Record all season long.

Later today, I'll have a story and video from Lansingburgh runner Alney Tobias, who is signing his letter of intent with Nebraska.
