Averill Park baseball still undefeated in Suburban play; Tuesday's roundup

The Record

AVERILL PARK -- Nick Cioffi hit a three-run home run and earned the win on the mound and Josh Sprague added a double, two singles and three RBI as Averill Park High School’s baseball team posted a 15-2 Suburban Council victory over Mohonasen Tuesday.
Christian Thibeault added a pair of doubles and two RBI and Tyler Listing doubled and singled for Averill Park (3-0, 4-1).
Cioffi allowed just two hits, three walks and one earned run in six innings of work, striking out eight Mohonasen (0-3, 0-4) batters.

Matt Zanotta added a three-run homer and an RBI single for the Dutchmen (2-1, 2-2).

Rensselaer 8, New Lebanon 4: Lyle Walls drove in four runs and Keith McElroy drove in two runs to give the Rams (1-0) the victory.
Tim Foust struck out five and pitched a complete game for Rensselaer.

Columbia 3, Guilderland 0 (9 innings): Casey Ochs singled twice and her leadoff hit in the ninth inning resulted in the game-winning run in a Suburban Council victory for the Blue Devils (3-0, 7-0).
Caitlin Cooper lost her no-hit bid in the third inning, but finished with no walks, one hit allowed and four strikeouts.
It was the fourth extra-innings game for Columbia High this season.

South Glens Falls 3, Cambridge 2 (OT): John Holt scored his second goal of the game in overtime as the Bulldogs (1-3) pulled out the low-scoring road victory.

Schalmont 6, Waterford 0: A.J Metzold took down Joe Hilton 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles as the Sabres shut out the Fordians in Colonial Council action.
Averill Park 6, Mohonasen 3: The Warriors earned a Suburban Council victory over Mohonasen Tuesday afternoon.
Track and Field
Berlin and Greenwich at Hoosic Valley: Hoosic Valley’s boys team defeated Berlin and Greenwich in head-to-head action while Greenwich’s girls team held off Hoosic Valley and Berlin in a track meet at Hoosic Valley High School Tuesday.
On the girls’ side, Hoosic Valley’s Maggie Sanderson won the 3,000 meter run in a time of 12:09. Hoosic Valley’s Hannah Nesich won the 100 and 400 meter hurdle races.
In boys’ action, Berlin’s Alex French won the pole vault with a leap of 2.74 meters.
Averill Park and Guilderland at Columbia: The Averill Park boys team defeated Columbia and Guilderland in head-to-head action Tuesday.
Sean Mullen won both the triple jump (40’, 9.25") and the 400 meter dash (55.3 seconds) for the Warriors.
Guilderland defeated Columbia, 93-87.
Bethlehem and Mohonasen at Colonie: Colonie defeated Mohonasen and Bethlehem in head-to-head matches Tuesday in Suburban Council track and field action.
Bethlehem defeated Mohonasen, 88-70.
