2010 High school baseball preview
The Record's 2010 high school baseball preview section was published today. (I was told the softball would be published Monday as well, but we did not have room. Look for that in the coming days).

We also needed to fill a short hole on one of the pages, so I came up with a quick list of former high school players from the area competing for local colleges. Unfortunately, the last few lines were cut off because we only had so much space. It's a puzzle every day trying to get stories at the right length to snap in alongside pictures and advertisements.
The College of Saint Rose also features a large list of Section II alumni, including Jordan Zareski and Dave Batchelder (Lansingburgh), Caleb Gleason (Watervliet), Ryan Burke (La Salle), Eric Hilton (Columbia) and Tom McDonald (Shaker).
All apologies for their omission.
There are hundreds of former Troy-area stars in college, and that list was in no means meant to be all-inclusive. Please let me know if there is anyone else out there I should be keeping track of.

With a trio of La Salle Institute seniors – Dave Roseboom, Will Remillard and J.P. Sportman - having already signed their letters of intent to play Division I college baseball next season, here is a quick look at the where some former Troy-area stars are shining on the diamond this year.
At the Division III level, a number of local products have stayed close to home. RPI's lineup includes Patrick Reardon, a senior catcher who previously played at La Salle, and Dan Carey, a junior righthander from Lansingburgh.
Sophomore Jared Henkel, who starred at La Salle, is among the many Section II players on Union College's roster.
Scott Morrissey (La Salle), Bryan Lajeunesse (Albany Academy) and Kyle Moldoff (Columbia) all made Clarkson University's 2010 team.
At the junior college level, Hudson Valley's roster is packed with local players, including Tyler Rose and Bobby Peluso (Columbia), Chad Houle (Hoosic Valley), Tyler Young (Shaker), Josh Johnson (Tamarac), Christopher Dobert (Averill Park), Andrew Christie, Nick Pontari, Michael Barna and Aaron Tilley (Troy), Nick Papas (Maple Hill) and Robert Piser (CCHS).
In Division I, freshman Jaime Schultz will compete at High Point University after leading Maple Hill to a New York State Class C title in 2009.
Albany High graduate Mike Hughes is pitching at Coastal Carolina.
Former La Salle player Kyle Charron and Christian Brothers Academy graduate Chris Sand are freshmen on the Iona College team.
Kyle's older brother, Joe Charron, is a senior outfielder at Binghamton.
The University at Albany features Chris Bouchard (CCHS) and Austin Chase and Nolan Gaige, Columbia products, among the 12 former Section II players on the roster.
Shaker High product Tommy Kahnle won a Division II World Series at Lynn University a season ago and pitched a no-hitter earlier this season.
