Our Chris Fitz Gerald, The Record's lacrosse guru, reported from Cambridge High School yesterday. Traditionally a football power, Cambridge fields a varsity lacrosse team for the first time this season.

“I love this sport,” said Jordan Fortier, a senior attackman who has been playing lacrosse for eight years since the youth program in Cambridge was founded. “It’s grown. Everybody’s gotten way better, and since the very beginning I’ve been playing with a lot of these kids since the very first year (at the youth level) and they’ve gotten so much better. It’s just awesome to watch it progress.”

Players warm-up as Cambridge starts practice on Wednesday. The team plays its first varsity game today (Thursday) at Glens Falls.

Christian Brothers Academy senior Jack Reilly, seen here leading the Brothers in a drill during a recent practice, will play college lacrosse at Johns Hopkins University.

Be sure to check out Chris Fitz Gerald's boys and girls lacrosse previews, which will be published in The Record on Sunday.
