If the season ended today: girls basketball - magic numbers (CC, C and D updates)
Continuing the subject from last night, let's make some guesses on how the brackets are going to pan out this year.
I could see the committee bumping Voorheesville higher than the 8 seed because of their standing in the Colonial Council, but on the strengths of wins and losses, they are lower than Galway, Canajoharie and Spa Catholic.
(Chatham and Hoosick Falls have 1-15 records this season and may decline to participate. For the sake of the experiment, I'm including them here as the 11 and 12 seeds)
8 Voorheesville vs. 9 Corinth
5 Galway vs. 12 Chatham
7 Saratoga Central Catholic vs. Cambridge
6 Canajoharie vs. 11 Hoosick Falls
4 AA Girls vs. 5 Galway
2 Hoosic Valley vs. 7 Spa Catholic
3 Schenectady Christian vs. 6 Canajoharie
2 Hoosic Valley vs. 3 Schenectady Christian
Like Class CC, some of the teams at the bottom may decline to participate, but I've included them all for the sage of the exercise.
4 Rensselaer vs. 13 Hadley-Luzerne
5 Lake George vs. 12 Middleburg
8 Fort Plain vs. 9 Schoharie
7 Berlin vs. 10 Mayfield
6 Duanesburg vs. 11 Warrensburg
4 Rensselaer vs. 5 Lake George
2 Waterford vs. 7 Berlin
3 B-K-W vs. 6 Duanesburg
2 Waterford vs. 3 B-K-W
Like the other classes, some of the bottom teams will not compete in sectionals. I'm leaving Salem, Northville, Fort Ann, North Warren, New Lebanon, St. Johnsville and Hawthorne Valley out of the playoffs, but some of them may chose to participate.
4 Argyle vs. 5 Sharon Springs
2 Whitehall vs. 7 Loudonville Christian
3 Heatly vs. 6 Hartford
2 Whitehall vs. 3 Heatly
--
Again, these are just for fun. Upsets are sure to happen. Until the brackets come out on Wednesday, Feb. 17, have fun guessing how things will turn out.
