Troy romps over Amsterdam

This image captures what happened time and time again in Saturday's game at Troy High, as Dorrel Williams (17), Stephaun Grinage (31) and Kyle Geraci (44) wrap up Amsterdam running back Angel Valentin during Saturday's 50-0 victory on Edward C. Picken Field. (Photos by Mike McMahon - The Record).

Troy High limited the Rugged Rams to -26 yards of total offense - yes, they went backward more than they went forward - stopping 16 of 30 running plays behind the line of scrimmage.

"We knew a lot of the plays they ran on offense from our coaching staff and what we go over throughout the week," said Troy senior defensive end Vinny Pennisi. "And we came out and played more aggressive than they did and that’s why we won the game. We played a lot more aggressive and we knew what was going on a lot of the time."

Troy's Shatiek Lewis looks to stiff-arm Amsterdam's Bobby Noto during Saturday's game. Lewis finished with 108 rushing yards on eight carries, scoring three touchdowns.

Troy's Jordan Canzeri racked up 252 all-purpose yards, including a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the game. It was his first varsity game at home.

"Against Queensbury, we were away for my first varsity game and it didn’t feel that much different from JV," said Canzeri, a junior running back. "But here at home, with the TV cameras here and playing against our rival, it was a lot of pressure."
