Section II quarterback ratings: Week 2
After one week of play in Section II, a pair of quarterbacks finished with a perfect passer rating. The NFL QB rating formula is explained in detail here, but here are the nuts and bolts.
The formula takes four aspects of the quarterback's game into consideration and balances them together, allowing us to measure performances against one another. Completion percentage, yardage, touchdowns and interceptions all figure into the mix, each as 25% of the final rating.
It's an arbitrary number, so the maximum rating comes out at 158.3.
The NFL average for the 2007 and 2008 seasons was 83.2.
I'm keeping track of all the stats in the office and I calculate the ratings every week in an Excel sheet. We'll make this a regular feature on the blog every week as we look ahead to the next weekend of games.
