SCHAGHTICOKE - Senior hurler Jen Mineau was one bobbled ball from a perfect game.
The Hoosic Valley right-hander struck out 21 batters, but a dribbler off the bat of Amanda Bitting in the top of the seventh was bobbled at first, ending the perfect game bid.
The state’s newly top-ranked Class B team remained unbeaten, however, with an 11-0 victory over Stillwater to clinch at least a share of the Wasaren League title.
A win in either of next week’s games will give the Indians (12-0, 13-0) back-to-back league titles.
Sam Anderson hit a two-run home run for the Hoosic Valley and Mineau, who tossed her fifth no-hitter of the season, helped her own cause with a three-run shot.

On the baseball diamond, Ryan's alma mater crushed mine, as Albany rolled to an easy 7-2 win over Burnt Hills. Albany's Dominique Daniels hit the first two home runs of his varsity career as the Spartans struck out six times against Jake Valentine, who went the distance.

The La Salle Cadets routed inner city rival CCHS 15-1 as Kyle Charron (3) and Jared Henkel (4)combined for seven RBIs. La Salle, the new No.-1 ranked class AA team in the state, is three games away from a perfect season in the Big 10.

Ravena clinched the Colonial Council title with a 10-2 win over Cobleskill. Joe Boomhower and Keith Hoyt had three hits a piece and the Indians had 16 as a team.

Waterford got past CHVL rival New Lebanon 6-3. Kevin Terry and Joe Walek each had two hits for the Fordians.

Here's the latest NYS Sportswriters Association baseball rankings as of 5/12. La Salle takes the No. 1 spot in their first appearance on the poll.
