2009 Colonial Council softball All-Stars
(The Record's All-Area baseball, softball and lacrosse teams are nearing completion - stay tuned on this page and we will post the publication dates for those sections as soon as we're sure when they will run in the hard copy. In the meantime, here is the 2009 Colonial Council softball All-Stars team, submitted this afternoon, as voted by the league's head coaches.)
Batted .453 with 30 runs and 28 RBI
Pitching: 18-7, 0.66 ERA, 310 Ks, nine shutouts.
I didn't get to see Harrison pitch this season - Cobleskill is a long way from Troy - but from what I heard from Colonial Council coaches during the season, this was a deserving pick. A tough lefty, Harrison baffled batters all year long, as proven by 310 strikeouts.
Batted .472 with 42 hits (6 double, 1 triple, 1 homer) 27 RBI.
Pitching: 17-1, 0.65 ERA, 174 Ks, (123 inn)
Erin Glikes Sr., P, Lansingburgh (2008 MVP)
Pitching: 19-5, 0.66 ERA, 239 Ks (163 inn), batting average allowed .127.
Glikes couldn't repeat as Colonial Council MVP or lead the Lady Knights to a league championship, but she did the next best thing - claim a Section II Class A title. She'll pitch for American International College in the future.
Meg Volz Soph., C, Lansingburgh
Batted .511 with 47 hits (9 doubles, 7 triples and 3 home runs) with 23 RBI.
The Colonial Council has earned a reputation as one of the better softball conferences in the state as Lansingburgh, Mechanicville and Cohoes have all represented the league well in postseason play in recent years. And with the caliber of pitchers in the league - Arceneaux, Harrison, Mechanicville's Shannon McBride - Volz's 47 hits in one season becomes that much more amazing a statistic. She was a nightmare for opposing pitchers to start off the game and was a middle of the lineup slugger leading off for the Lady Knights.
Shannon McBride Jr., SS/P/2B, Mechanicville
Batted .432 with 35 hits (9 doubles and 1 triple) 22 RBI
Pitching 8-3; 1.05 ERA, 99 Ks, (79 1/3 inn)
McBride did a little bit of everything this year for the Red Raiders. She split the pitching duties with Arceneaux during the regular season and provided Mechanicville a big bat and a great defensive presence at short in the postseason.
Kelsey Hines Soph., 3B/2B, Mechanicville
Batted .441 with 45 hits (14 doubles, 4 triples and 1 home run) and 29 RBI.
Hines, a transfer from Shenendehowa, brought a ton of power to the Red Raiders' lineup. She hit a towering double in the state championship game against Fredonia and played well in the infield, either at second or third, depending on Mechanicville's pitching situation that day. She'll be back next year, along with every other player on a seniorless Mechanicville roster.
Sarah Cipperly Jr., SS, Lansingburgh
Batted .419 with 36 hits (3 doubles, 5 triples and 1 home run) and 19 RBI.
Cipperly was the RBI machine in the middle of the Knights' lineup - but her most important asset was a rocket for an arm in the hole at shortstop. She only made five errors all season, an impressive number who saw many groundballs behind Glikes.
Courtney Dayter Fresh., P, Cohoes
10-8 with a 1.97 ERA, Dayter did an admirable job trying to fill the shoes of Courtney Galuksi, who took the Tigers to the NYS Class B Final Four in her junior and senior years.
Dayter struck out 126 batters in 124 innings and hurled five shutouts. Along with freshman batterymate Courtney Gumprecht, she'll be a force in the Colonial for years to come.
Kelsey DeZalia Jr., 3B/SS, Voorheesville
Batted .375 with 24 hits (10 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run) and 16 RBI.
Bianca Bojarczuk Jr., 2B/P, Schalmont
Katie Vishneowski Soph., CF, Ravena Coeymans Selkirk
Kate Brust Soph., C/OF, Cobleskill Richmondville
Jeana Longo Sr., 3B/P, Schalmont
Baillie Tetrault Soph., 2B, Cohoes
Britni Rosato Sr., 3B, Ravena Coeymans Selkirk
Alysa Russell Fresh., SS/3B, Mechanicville
Kolbi Smith Jr., C, Holy Names
Britney Creed Jr., SS/LF, Voorheesville
Ashley Miley Jr., SS, Schalmont
Lansingburgh - Kayla Cole Jr 3B/OF, Melissa Bell Sr 1B, Sam Woitkoski Soph 2B/P
Cobleskill-Richmondville - Laura Swanhall Sr 1B/C, Katie Reinemann Jr SS, Ashlyn Siers Sr 3B
Cohoes - Shelby Gratton Sr OF, Shana Cooper Soph SS

Ravena-Coeymanns-Selkirk - Erienne Rieth Sr 2B, Chrissy Shepard Sr C, Katherine Race Soph C, Emily Cochrane Sr P
Voorheesville - Kate Chiseri Sr C, Amanda Gatt 8th 2B/P, Alexa Dillenbeck Jr P
Watervliet - Dena Iannone Sr P/SS, Katie Plunkett Soph 1B/P, Amber Dawson Jr 2B, Ashley Soto Sr C, Sherea Snare Jr 3B
League MVP
Sarah Harrison Jr., P, Cobleskill-RichmondvilleBatted .453 with 30 runs and 28 RBI
Pitching: 18-7, 0.66 ERA, 310 Ks, nine shutouts.

First Team
Anna Arceneaux Soph., P/2B, MechanicvilleBatted .472 with 42 hits (6 double, 1 triple, 1 homer) 27 RBI.
Pitching: 17-1, 0.65 ERA, 174 Ks, (123 inn)
Arceneaux did it again in 2009, leading the Red Raiders to a second consecutive New York State title, this time in Class B. She raked at the plate - her only home run came against Cohoes in the Section II Class B quarterfinals - and allowed just over one half of one earned run per start.
Erin Glikes Sr., P, Lansingburgh (2008 MVP)
Pitching: 19-5, 0.66 ERA, 239 Ks (163 inn), batting average allowed .127.
