Averill Park and Columiba set for Suburban showdown

Averill Park and Columbia won their opening round games in the Averill Park Tip-Off Tournament this afternoon, meaning they will face off in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
It should be an interesting non-league tilt between two very strong teams.

Lansingburgh's Tina Johnston is hacked by Averill Park's Amber Dushensky during Averill Park's 52-30 victory on Friday. (JS Carras - The Record).

Averill Park's Brooke O'Shea prepares to take it strong to the hoop on Friday. Brooke, a freshman, has been designated the team's utility player by head coach Sean Organ. She can play any position from two-guard up to center. She finished with eight points and seven rebounds on Friday. (JS Carras - The Record).

Lansingburgh's Alyssa Fane is swarmed by the Averill Park defense, led by Katie Duma, left and Brittany O'Shea, right. The Warriors' pressing man-to-man effort forced many a turnover and led to countless easy buckets for Averill Park. (JS Carras - The Record).

Troy's Shannon Jones (5) protects the ball from Columbia's Amanda Batzold during Columbia's 54-34 victory. Columbia head coach Kathleen Smith lauded Batzold after the game as a "true point guard" for her selflessness and court vision. (JS Carras - The Record).

The Tamarac boys won our Wasaren League vote with 76% of the vote - I think a link from the school's main page might have had something to do with that...
But feel free to sound off in the Wasaren League girls poll, which we'll leave up for a week.
