CC/C Playoff, A Final and Notes on the AA Title

Bishop Maginn's Taran Buie drives past CBA defender Kameron Ritter. (Mike McMahon — The Record).

A dominant performance by Maginn in the final. The Brothers just could not handle the defensive pressure Maginn threw at them and Shimeek Johnson, as coach Rich Hurley said, "played like a man amonsgt boys."

The Griffs, though, will have their hands full with Syracuse-area Henninger in the state regional final. However, Maginn will have a near homecourt advantage at HVCC on Saturday.

CBA gave it a try, but the Brothers just could not stick with Maginn's high-flying, fast paced offense.

6:13 pm: After one, Rensselaer trails Mechanicville, 15-9.

6:29 pm: At the half, Mechanicville leads, 28-21. Josh Rougia had a nice dunk for the Raiders in the second quarter.
Rensselaer might be a little closer if they forced the ball inside to center Keith Britt a little more - they been shooting an awful lot of 3s so far, with only one Justin Wilkinson bomb going in. Britt has 11 points and Wilkinson has five for Rensselaer.
Rougia leads all scorers with 13 at the break - Pat Marra has six and Nick Lettrick five for Mechanicville.
None of the major players are in foul trouble yet - Lettrick has two, with Rougia and Marra one apiece.
The Rams can hang tough if they a) start making those threes or b) get in inside to Britt more often.

6:55 pm: The Rams took option A. Wilkinson and Shane Brozowski buried three treys combined in the waning minutes of the third to tie the score at 37 heading into the fourth.

6:58 pm: With 6:54 remaining, it's 41-40 Mechanicville. Chris Britt also hit a 3 for the Rams.

7:02 pm: With 5:13 to go and after a Rougia trey, the Raiders lead 44-40.

7:09 pm: 45-40 Mechanicville with 2:30 to go. The Raiders are crashing the offensive boards and controlling the shot clock.

7:15 pm: 38.9 seconds left, Mechanicville leads 52-46.

7:17 pm: Wilkinson drained an NBA 3 to make it 54-51 with 4.7 ticks left.

7:27 pm: Mechanicville held on to win, 56-51. Rensselaer held with them right until the very end and made it an entertaining game.
Academy-Gibbons is coming up in about 10 minutes.

8:10 pm: An upset special in Glens Falls? Gibbons leads 25-18 at the half - and Academy's Jamel Fields has three fouls, spending half of the second quarter on the bench.
The Knights have hit a trio of clutch 3s to expand their lead and they have been much more tenacious on the glass.
Apart from a 7-7 tie early in the game, Academy has trailed ever since and never had the lead.
Plenty of basketball left to play. We will see if the Cadets can shake off the rust.

8:28 pm: No joke: with 2:56 to go in the 3rd, it's Gibbons 41, Academy 25.

8:39 pm: After 3, Gibbons leads 48-29.

9:09 pm: Final from Glens Falls, Gibbons 65, Academy 48.
