The Section II high school football playoff picture became much clearer Saturday afternoon, but it is still far from being settled out. Here is what we know after Saturday's action. The playoff matchups will not become official until the coaches announce the schedule following their pre-playoff meetings Sunday morning.

Ballston Spa is the No. 1 by virtue of Saratoga Springs' victory over Shen, which vaulted the Blue Streaks into the No. 2 seed and dropped Shen to No. 3. CBA, which owns the head-to-head tiebreaker over Guilderland, locked up the No. 4 spot.

Troy shut out Shaker Saturday afternoon to clinch the No. 1 seed and bump Shaker to No. 2. Niskayuna was already locked in as the No. 3, but made a statement in a big victory over Ballston Spa. Schenectady eliminated Colonie and clinched the No. 4 seed.

Burnt Hills and Amsterdam will be Nos. 1 and 2. Queensbury, with a head-to-head tiebreaeker and quarterpoint edge over Gloversville, is locked into the No. 3 seed win, lose or draw. Gloversville, with the head-to-head edge over Glens Falls, is locked in at No. 4. Glens Falls will earn the No. 5 seed and play at Burnt Hills in the first round by virtue of a better overall record and better record against common opponents than Southeast Division No. 4 Scotia, which has been eliminated.

The Knights clinched the division with a 20-14 victory over No. 3 Bishop Maginn. Averill Park was locked in to the No. 2 seed unless Lansingburgh had lost.

The Indians clinched the No. 1 seed with a victory over No. 2 Albany Academy Friday night. Cohoes, of course, made things difficult by defeating Hudson Saturday afternoon. Cohoes is still alive, barely, for a postseason berth, said head coach James Ducharme.
Hudson and Cairo-Durham join Cohoes in a three-way tie for the final two playoff spots in the division.
Cairo-Durham, however, failed to record quarter scores from its 23-13 victory over Cohoes on Oct. 2, so the teams cannot accurately determine the quarterpoint tiebreaker at this point. Cairo also does not film its games, so coaches will watch Cohoes’ film from the game Sunday morning at the Class B coaches’ meeting and make a final determination on which team will miss the playoffs.

The Sabres clinched the No. 1 seed with a victory over Schuylerville. Since there is a three-way tie for second place, I believe the tiebreaker goes straight to quarterpoints and does not factor in any head-to-head competition. So, Hudson Falls is No. 2, Schuylerville drops to No. 3 and Cobleskill will be No. 4.

Hoosick Falls will be No. 1 and Greenwich will be No. 2. Mechanicville leapfrogged Tamarac with an overtime win Friday and the Bengals hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Granville, so the Golden Horde have been eliminated, according to Tamarac head coach Erick Roadcap.
However, it looks like a three-way tie to me. Granville played seven division games, losing to Greenwich, Hoosick Falls and Tamarac. Since all three teams did not play each other, I'm not sure if head-to-head is applicable. Mechanicville beat Tamarac (and did not play Granville) and Tamarac beat Granville (but lost to Mechanicville.) Granville beat neither team, but lost to Tamarac.
If you look at quarterpoints against common opponents between all three teams (which were Lake George, Greenwich and Corinth), Mechanicville and Granville both scored 12.5 quarterpoints. Tamarac finished with 11.
Again, I'm not really sure what happens here, but Tamarac officials were sure that Mechanicville was No. 3 and the Bengals are No. 4, so that is what I went with in my story today. If that is wrong, please correct me.

Cambridge is No. 1, Rensselaer is No. 2 by virtue of its victory over No. 3 Whitehall Friday night. Fort Edward defeated Gibbons to clinch the No. 4 seed, bumping the Knights to No. 5. Warrensburg is No. 6.
