Local roundup, Weds. Oct. 6

(Throughout the fall season, I'll be posting the local roundup as soon as it starts to trickle in every night. It will be updated as we received more scores).

SCHENECTADY -- Catholic Central High School’s Corey Purcell shot a low round of 75 Wednesday at Stadium Golf Course in the Section II Class B golf Tournament.
Gloversville, however, won the team competition with a combined low score of 333. Cobleskill-Richmondville (338), Broadalbin-Perth (343) and Johnstown (343) rounded out the top three.
Field Hockey
Hoosick Falls 1, Granville 0: Amanda Lewsey scored a second half goal on an assist from Hailey Bugby as the Panthers (5-0, 11-0) defeated the Golden Horde (2-3) in Wasaren League action.
Hoosick Falls’ Frankie Pearson did not face a shot on goal, while Granville’s Bridget Decker made 10 saves.
Girls Volleyball
Tamarac 3, Hoosic Valley 0: The Bengals (7-0, 9-2) remained unbeaten in the Wasaren League, winning 25-23, 25-10 and 25-20.
Lindsay Doyle finished with 14 service points, while Alyssa Bonesteel and Nancy Vickerson added seven kills apiece.
Lexy Payne had 17 digs for the Indians (4-3, 6-7), while Rayn Nigro finished with seven service points and six kills.
Emma Willard 3, New Lebanon 1: The Jesters (3-3, 4-4) won by scores of 25-12, 25-11, 17-25 and 25-16 in a CHVL matchup.
Mary Kemp had 13 aces and 10 assists and Ariana Desantis finished with nine aces for Emma.
Gabby Hilts had five aces and two kills for the Tigers (0-6, 0-9).
Loudonville Christian 3, Berlin 0: Chelsea Brown finished with 10 aces, nine kills and nine digs in leading the Eagles to the victory by scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-5.
Julia Brown added 23 assists for Loudonville.
Shaylah Morris finished with finished with seven digs and Sarah Bentley had four kills for the Mountaineers (1-5, 1-9).
Chatham 3, Taconic Hills 0: The Panthers won a Patroon Conference match, sweeping the Titans.
Boys Soccer
Hoosick Falls 2, Schuylerville 0: Evan Phillips and Drew Phillips each scored for the Panthers (4-4-1) in a Wasaren matchup.
Cody Gaines made four stops in the shutout for Hoosick Falls.
Boys Cross Country
CCHS wins Big 10 meet: Catholic Central’s Chris Herbs set a school record of 15:44 on the 2.75-mile course in Knickerbacker Park, finishing fourth overall and leading the Crusaders to team victories over Albany High and Christian Brothers Academy in a Big 10 tri-meet.
Albany’s Germano Philo finished first in 14:57 and was followed by Ricky Cummings (CBA, 15:08) and Aaron Gianella (Albany, 15:39). Catholic Central’s Steve Curry was fifth in 16:32.
Girls Cross Country
CCHS tops Albany High: Catholic Central’s Megan Jenney ran a 19:07 on the 2.75-mile course at Knickerbacker Park, finishing first and lifting the Lady Crusaders to a Big 10 Conference victory over Albany High.
CCHS’ Caroline Couser was second in 19:11 and Albany Alexa Pettit was third in a time of 19:27.
