Local roundup, Mon. Oct. 4, 2010

The Record


SCHAGHTICOKE -- The Hoosic Valley High School boys soccer team needed two overtimes, but that was what it took to hand Wasaren League-leading Greenwich its first loss Monday afternoon.
The Indians won, 3-2, improving to 5-3-0 in Wasaren action and are now 5-4-0 overall. Hoosic Valley avenged an earlier 1-0 defeat at Greenwich.
The Witches (5-1-2, 6-1-2) still occupy first place in the Wasaren League.
Hoosick Falls 1, Cambridge 0: Chris LaCroix scored a goal on a deflected shot about 25 minutes into the second half to lift the Panthers to a Wasaren League victory.
Maple Hill 3, Cairo-Durham 0: Steven Sepowki scored all three goals for the Wildcats in a Patroon Conference victory over the Mustangs.
Waterford 4, Berlin 0: Fre Breen scored a pair of goals – Joe Chiera and Alex Koscielniak added single tallies – and Zac Lennon provided three assists in a CHVL victory for the Fordians (7-0-0, 8-2-0). Joe Hilton made seven saves to record the shutout.
Jared Burns made nine saves for the Mountaineers (3-3-0, 4-3-0).
Burnt Hills 2, Shaker 2 (OT): Tom Nocito scored a pair of goals for the Spartans, but the teams played to a Suburban Council draw Monday afternoon.
Girls Soccer
Waterford 2, New Lebanon 1 (OT): Kate Howe scored a goal in the first overtime period to lift the Waterford-Halfmoon High School girls soc¬cer team to a 2-1 CHVL victory over New Lebanon Monday afternoon.
Maddie Clow scored the first goal for the Lady Fordians (3-4-0, 3-5-0) and Shannon Hastings made nine saves in net.
Dewery Weeks scored the lone goal for New Lebanon.
Emma Willard 3, Heatly 1: Sarah Bower scored two goals and added an assist for the Jesters in a CHVL victory over the Hornets. Keegan McDonald also scored for Emma Willard while Hayley Kohler made three saves in net.
Angelica DeCianni scored a goal for Heatly. Stasha Cuzdey made eight saves for the Hornets.
Ravena 2, Watervliet 0: Kasey Biernacki and Rachel Frueh scored first half goals for the Indians in a Colonial Council victory over the Cannoneers (2-5-0).
Beatrice Lease made 13 saves in net for Watervliet.
Ichabod Crane 6, Fonda-Fultonville 0: Alicia Mink scored two goals for the Riders (4-2-0) in a Colonial Council triumph over the Braves.
Cobleskill 4, Cohoes 0: Ali Thompson scored three goals and assisted on another for the Bulldogs (2-4-1) in a Colonial Council victory over the Tigers (0-5-0).
Danielle Beauchamp made 17 saves for Cohoes.
Catholic Central 5, Catskill 0: Julie McNeff scored a pair of goals and Madison Purcell, Asa Evans and Anette Volpe added single tallies for the Lady Crusaders (2-1-0, 6-2-0) in a non-league victory over the Cats.
Girls Volleyball
Maple Hill 3, Rensselaer 0: The Wildcats won a Patroon Conference match by scores of 25-8, 25-18 and 25-18.
Chatham 3, Coxsackie-Athens 0: The Panthers won a Patroon Conference match by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-12.
Bethlehem 3, Saratoga Springs 2: The Eagles (7-2) topped the Blue Streaks in Suburban Council action by game scores of 18-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-14 and 25-13.
Kat Rice paced Bethlehem with 15 kills, six aces and two blocks. Kaity Ward added 13 kills and four blocks.
For Saratoga Springs, Maura Postlethwait provid¬ed 11 digs, Ellington Montgomery chipped in with 10 digs and Riley Catone added five kills.
Emma Willard 3, Albany Academy 0: The Jesters topped the Bears (0-10) by game scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 26-24 in Colonial Council action.
Spa Catholic 3, Fort Plain 0: The Saints won a WAC match by scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-5.
Boys Volleyball
Bethlehem 3, Colonie 0: The Eagles (9-1) received 19 assists and five aces from Kyle Landrzian in a Suburban Council victory over the Garnet Raiders (5-5) by scores of 25-13, 25-14 and 25-14.
Boys Golf
Averill Park splits Suburban tri-match: The Averill Park golf team defeated Colonie, 267-291, but also lost a match against Guilderland, 258-270, at Burden Lake Country Club.
Jimmy Sullivan shot a low round of 35 for the Warriors.
Girls Tennis
Scotia-Glenville 4, Greenwich 0: The Tartans won a rain-shortened match against the Witches.
From Saturday
Cross Country
Columbia girls shine at Great American meet: Columbia's Kaylee Scott, an eighth-grader, finished 10th overall in a time of 19:22.00 in the Great American Cross Country race in Cary, N.C. over the 3.1-mile course. She was the third eighth-grader overall and led Columbia to a sixth place finish in the seeded race.
Anna Boughtwood (25th), Cali Palumbo (32nd), Kailyn Balzano (52nd) and Amanda Jones (53rd) also placed for the Blue Devils. Jones, a seventh-grader, was the top runner at the meet in her grade level.
