La Salle's baseball and lacrosse teams victorious; local roundup

TROY -- A rainout earlier in the season opened up a non-league date for the La Salle Institute baseball team and the Cadets brought one of New York State’s top teams, Mamaroneck, to the Collar City Saturday afternoon.
J.P. Sportman hit a home run and scored four times and Will Remillard added a home run, two runs and two RBI for the Cadets in a 14-8 victory over New York’s No. 8 ranked Class AA team at Geer Field.
Garrett Bernardo doubled twice and drove in four runs, while his brother, Nick Bernardo, contributed with a pair of singles, runs, stolen bases and RBI, respectively.
La Salle, the No. 15 ranked Class AA team in the state, improved to 16-4 overall.
Scott Hagan hit two doubles and drove in three runs for Mamaroneck (16-4).
Bethlehem 4, Niskayuna 2: Mike Wollner pitched a complete game, leading the Eagles (4-12, 6-13) to victory over the Silver Warriors (10-6, 12-7) in Schenectady’s Bradford Tournament.
Mechanicville 14, Stillwater 0: Josh Coreno hit a two-run home run and a single and Dylan Guido added a solo home run for the Red Raiders (14-6) in a non-league rivalry victory over the Warriors (1-16). Nick Gaetano tripled and struck out five over six innings of work on the mound for Mechanicville.
Shenendehowa 19, Troy 1: Justin Schnellbaecher hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning for Troy’s (11-5, 12-7) only run in a non-league loss at Shenendehowa. Dan Lenney powered the Plainsmen with two home runs and six RBI.
Shenendehowa 4, Albany 3 (8): Colin Grande stole home to tie the game in the seventh inning and John Craig provided the game-winning hit for the Plainsmen (14-2, 17-3) in the eighth inning.
Josh Cocco hit a two-run home run for the Falcons (4-12, 5-14).
Columbia 9, Troy 1: Kyle Henchey hit a home run, a double and a single, driving in three runs for the Blue Devils (8-8, 10-10) in a non-league victory over the Flying Horses in Clifton Park.
Zeb Gaston hit a pair of singles for the Flying Horses (11-5, 12-8).
Columbia 8, Albany 7:
Zac Larson hit a pair of singles and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils in a non-league victory over the Falcons.

Softball

Waterford 8, Galway 2: Ashley Lefebvre hit a triple, a double and two singles, driving in two runs for the Lady Fordians in a non-league victory over Galway (9-10). Aimee Lefebvre chipped in with a double, two singles and two RBI for Waterford (13-3, 14-4).

Boys Lacrosse
La Salle 6, Ballston Spa 2: The Cadets topped the Scotties in a Section II Class A opening round boys lacrosse game Saturday night at Sutton Field. Mike Koberger scored two goals for La Salle and Shawn Quinn made seven saves. No. 8 La Salle plays at No. 1 Shenendehowa Wednesday night in the quarterfinals.
Saratoga Springs 18, Schenectady 8: Ben VanEarden scored five goals and Joe Scully added four for the Blue Streaks (7-10) in an opening round Section II Class A playoff game victory over the Patriots (8-9).
No. 7 Saratoga advances to face No. 2 CBA in a quarterfinal game Wednesday at 4 p.m.
