La Salle and Troy High girls win Big 10 track titles

ALBANY -- The Cadets won the 2010 Big 10 Conference regular season track and field title by one tenth of one second. Literally.
In the final race – the 4x400 relay – of a tri-meet with Albany High and Catholic Central, Albany’s anchor leg, Deshawn Gates, made up almost 25 meters on La Salle’s James Doran. Doran however, finished two feet ahead, as La Salle won the race, 3:31.1 to 3:31.2, posting a 91-87 victory over the Falcons.
La Salle finished 8-0 in the Big 10. Albany was 7-1.
Albany’s Kareem Morris won the sprinting events, running a 11.0 in the 100 meters, 22.3 in the 200 and 52.5 in the 400.

Troy High girls win 2010 Big 10 title
AMSTERDAM -- The Troy High girls track and field team finished off an undefeated regular season in Big 10 Conference action at Amsterdam Wednesday, capturing its first league title in over 20 years.
In a tri-meet with Amsterdam and Bishop Maginn, Troy won all three relay events, all the sprinting events and four of five field events.
Caysie Capano won the shot put (35 feet, three inches) and the discus (85 feet, eight inches) for the Flying Horses.

Girls Track and Field
Albany 109, Catholic Central 54: The Falcons won 10 of the 11 events on the track, posting a Big 10 Conference victory over the Lady Crusaders.
CCHS’ Gabby Clemente won the 3,000 meter run in 13:48.9.
In the field events, CCHS’ Leah Hyldelund won the high jump with a leap of four feet, three inches. Caroline Couser captured the triple jump for the Crusaders with a 27 feet, two inch effort.

Boys Track and Field
Troy victorious at Amsterdam: Troy High’s Travon Jackson won the 100 meter hurdles (15.3 seconds) and the 400 intermediate hurdles (61.0), leading the Flying Horses to victories over Amsterdam and Bishop Maginn in Big 10 tri-meet action.
James Rolfe won the 1600 meter (4:49) and 3200 meter (10:44) events for Troy, while Jayson Yaskanich was victorious in the shot put (40 feet, one and one half inches) and the discus (113 feet, seven inches).
Shaker sweeps in Suburban meet: Naquan Lewis won the shot put (50-5½) and the discus (143-7) to pace the Blue Bison to victories over Burnt Hills, Columbia and Mohonasen in a Suburban Council meet.
Averill Park takes three: Chris Miller and Rudy Winkler each won two individual events to spark the Warriors to Suburban Council wins over Colonie, Saratoga and Ballston Spa.
Miller won the 100 dash (11.20) and 200 dash (22.60) and Winkler prevailed in the shot put (48-½) and discus (132-5).

Baseball
La Salle 4, Albany 2: Garrett Bernardo and Nick Bernardo both singled and doubled for the Cadets (11-1, 11-4) in a Big 10 Conference victory over the Falcons (3-8, 5-9).
Albany’s Steve Zimring hit four singles and drove in a run.
Rensselaer 2, Waterford 0: Lou Berthoty twirled a two-hit shutout, leading the Rams (5-7, 5-10) earned a CHVL upset over the Fordians (7-3, 7-5).
Andrew Spath added a double for Rensselaer.

Softball
Schalmont 4, Voorheesville 2: Emily McLaughlin drove in one of two runs scored by the Sabres in the seventh inning post the victory.
Bianca Bojarczuk added three singles and drove in a run for Schalmont.
Amanda Gatt struck out 11 in the circle for the Blackbirds (4-7, 4-10) and hit a home run at the plate.
Waterford 9, Rensselaer 2: Andrea Strohmeier collected two doubles and drove in three runs for the Lady Fordians (10-2, 10-3) in a CHVL victory over the Rams (5-6).
Katie McGreevy and Aimee Lefebvre added a double and a single apiece for Waterford.
Shenendehowa 8, Saratoga 3: Giuliana Figliomeni had three hits and drove in a run for the Plainsmen in the victory.
Morgan Cahill and Alyson Onyon each had two hits for the Blue Streaks.
Bishop Gibbons 6, Bishop Maginn 2: Julianne Bouchard pitched a four-hitter and also singled twice and drove in two runs to pace the Knights to victory in the Big 10.
Ejada Montgomery also singled twice for Bishop Gibbons (2-7, 2-9) and Ruth Berben singled twice for the Griffins (0-10, 0-11).

Boys Lacrosse
Shenendehowa 14, Ballston Spa 1: Mike Jenkins scored three goals to propel the unbeaten Plainsmen to a Suburban Council triumph.
Brian Powell (assist), Max McAuliffe and Kris Woodcock each tallied two goals for Shen (11-0, 14-0).
Bethlehem 7, Colonie 6 (OT): Andy Conroy scored on a pass from Pat Johnson with 2:17 left in the first overtime as the Eagles posted a Suburban Council victory over the Garnet Raiders.
Shaker 4, Saratoga Springs 3: Jimmy O’Brien scored two goals and Kenny O’Connor made 10 saves for the Blue Bison in a Suburban Council victory over the Blue Streaks.

Girls Lacrosse
Niskayuna 15, Burnt Hills 3: Caleigh O'Brien and Ritchie Assini scored four goals apiece for the Silver Warriors in a Suburban Council victory over the Spartans.
Shenendehowa 21, Ballston Spa 6: The Lady Plainsmen posted a Suburban Council victory over the Scotties.
