It's very strange to me that there isn't a 2nd basemen or any other outfielder. Seems like it "politics" and "call back favors" at it's best in the Big Ten.

I just reviewed the All-Star team and I am confused. Doesn't a team require a 2nd baseman, a right fielder and left fielder. So how is this a team?????????????????

It's sad because the player with the highest batting average in Section II... and the strongest player in general... did not make MVP and everyone on the voting body knew it and ignored it to do the same thing they do every year...give the votes to their own...and the egos know who I'm talking about.

I've heard that the Big Ten doesn't do it by position. There are a few people who are buddies and they decide who they want. It's always been known that it is unfair and meaningless.

Interesting that the Big Ten gave the MVP to a junior this year but last year didn't give it to the best player because she wasn't a senior. Ineresting, CCHS this year, Troy last year...Hmmmm.

Just yesterday someone told me that the BIG TEN doesn't choose a "team", they just pick the favorite players. So where's the team? 2 pitchers, 2 catchers, 2 SS, 2 3rd and missing 1st base, 2nd and outfield? Sounds like favoritism to me!

The Big Ten is a disgrace it goes to show why the league can't compete with the Suburban Council. Please don't give me the nonsense that the girls are more discilplined and willing to put in the extra effort. It's possible the coaches along with the Big Ten Chairperson doesn't know anything about the sport. Since when has an allstar team not have a representative based on every position. On a baseball ballot it is selected by position, when the NBA selects it is based on position, when the NFL selects it is based on position and etc... If A player is good, however the person chosen ahead of them is better they're placed on the team as an alternate hence, that's where honorable mention comes into play. That's a weak explanation offered by the league that they don't choose by position because who knows whether some other position players aren't better than the selectee of another position. These selections weren't based on stats because somewhere along the way some of these pitchers had 3-5 losses in a very top heavy league. and if challenged I could find a player with higher batting and fielding stats than some listed. I challenge the sponser of the blog to do the research or the chairperson of the Big Ten. Is it possible i'm another dissatisfied parent? Or am I a person that knows fair is fair? There really is no defense to the mockery of the game or like stated earlier some were placed in a position that they know nothing about or they simply don't care.

First, this is high school softball, not MLB, NFL, or NBA.
Secondly, on most teams the best players are usually the pitcher and shortstop. Would it be fair to that shortstop who is the best player on a team, but not the best shortstop in the league, not make the all star team but her teammate in rightfield does because she happens to be the best right fielder?
Third, the selection process for the last 20 years has been:
1. each coach talks about the players from his/her team who he/she thinks should be considered for the all star team.
2. each coach ranks who they feel are the best 10 players in the league (other than their own players)with the top person receiving 10 point, 2nd 9 points,....
3. the player with the most points is league MVP, next 9 are the first team, any player receiveing votes form 2 or more coaches is placed on honorable mention.

Third, on some teams, players ply multiple positions during season.
