Shen basketball teams suspend eight players

The Shenendehowa High School girls basketball team has suspended six players and the boys team has suspended two, reports Stan Hudy at The Saratogian.

Apparently the alleged incident stems from a New Year's Eve party where alcohol was served to the underage players. A parent then informed girls head coach Ken Strube and the school district followed through on its Athletic Code of Conduct.

It is the latest in a string of conduct violations by athletic teams at Shenendehowa. Last winter, the boys ice hockey team suspended a number of players after they were caught with an illegal substance on a road trip. Three years ago, a number of players were charged with vandalism at the now infamous 'Hockey House.'

WNYT-TV has also confirmed this report.

We'll also have a preview story on Friday's Suburban Council girls basketball showdown between Colonie and Shaker. Now that Shen will be relying on junior varsity callups for some time, the winner of Friday's Colonie/Shaker game might get an edge toward the league's regular season title.
