Arno sets school scoring record at Maple Hill

Maple Hill junior striker Meeghan Arno (20) is mobbed by teammates after scoring her 79th career goal in a 7-0 Patroon Conference victory over Taconic Hills Wednesday behind the Maple Hill Middle School. Arno became Maple Hill's all-time leading scorer with the tally. (Photos by J.S. Carras - The Record).

There wasn't too much pressure on Arno to break the record heading into Wednesday's game. She admitted she didn't even know about the scoring record until lunch period on Wednesday.

Arno scored a quick pair of goals in the first half of Wednesday's game. Her teammates surrounded her on the record-breaking goal and Maple Hill head coach Shelia Golden pulled her from the game immediately after the score for a quick meeting and hug on the sidelines.

Arno, of course, thanked her teammates first, especially Ashley Cross and Sierra Legge, who have been setting her up for goals all season long.

"I always dreamed of having my name up on the banner, but I couldn’t have done it without the team, obviously," Arno said. "We have a fantastic team this year. We’re young still, but we’re a team. We work together and I couldn’t have done it without the amazing passes they’ve given me all year."

Arno shakes off a Taconic Hills defender during Wednesday's game. She scored a pair of goals and added two assists, making her the leading scorer in Section II so far this season with 19 goals.

Check out the full story on Arno and the full recap of Wednesday's game in Thursday's edition of The Record.

The Wildcats have a number of big games coming up on the schedule, including a Columbus Day contest against Ichabod Crane that will likely determine the Patroon Conference regular season champion.
