2010 New York State cross country meet preview
TROY — For the third straight year, Lansingburgh’s C.J. Sousis will represent the Collar City in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association cross country meet, which will be held Saturday at Lakeside Park in Pawling, near the Connecticut border.
Sousis, at left, a senior on the Lansingburgh boys team, placed fifth overall in the Section II Class B boys cross country race in a time of 16:03 at Saratoga Spa State Park last Friday.
In 2009 at SUNY-Plattsburgh, Sousis placed 46th overall in the Class B race in 16:49.7. As a sophomore in 2008, he placed 63rd overall in 18:07.41 at Sunken Meadows State Park in Kings Park.
“I’m pretty sure every race you’re going to beat your PR and you want to run every race better than what you ran last year,” Sousis said prior to the Section II meet. “Even though cross country isn’t a big sport overall, it is for all of us to make a name for our cross country team.”
Rural Rensselaer County will be well-represented at the state meet.
Columbia’s Kaylee Scott, an eighth grader, qualified for an individual berth in the girls Class AA race.
Berlin’s Kayleigh Corrado and Hannah French earned individual berths in the Class D run.
As for the Rensselaer County boys, Columbia’s Kyle Gronostaj, a freshman, will compete in the Class AA dash.
In Class D, Berlin will send Alex French, Connor Hoyt and Llew Palmer to the state meet.
Also of local note, the Shaker High School boys team, ranked No. 1 in the state among Class AA teams and No. 8 nationally by Harrier Magazine, will compete at Lakeside Park. Ian Dorset (Shenendehowa) and Ed Brown (Colonie) were the local individual qualifiers.
For the Class AA girls, Shenendehowa’s Lizzie Predmore, the overall winner at the Section II championships, will be joined by teammates Gina Stalica and Caroline Hampton.
Albany Academy's Morgan Wojtusik will run in the Class B event.
The opening ceremonies are set for 8:30 a.m. All spectators are asked to park at Pawling High School.
