Local softball teams competing in PONY Nationals

Three teams packed with local high school softball players are competing in the PONY National softball tournament this week in Akron, Ohio.

In the 18-and-under bracket, the Original Slik Chix of Mechanicville (featuring varsity players from Mechanicville, including Anna Arceneaux, Alysa Russell, Shannon McBride, and Rachel Quackenbush from Hoosick Falls, Giuliana Figliomini from Shenendehowa, coached by Mechanicville High coach Don Arceneaux) won a game, lost a game and tied another in the opening seeding round.

In the 16-and-under bracket, a pair of local teams are competing.

The New York Outkast features Cohoes' Shana Cooper, Catholic Central's Kylie Benoit and Averill Park's Denaya Tremont.

The Lady Bombers feature Shaker's Sammy Kawola and Julia Casale, as well as plenty of players from Colonie.
