McCowan 5-for-5 in Troy High baseball victory

SCHENECTADY - Iziah McCowan went 5-for-5 at the plate with five singles and two RBI, leading Troy High to an 11-8 Big 10 Conference baseball victory over Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons Friday afternoon.
Stephen Ziter added a double and a single and two RBI, while Bill Schnellbaecher had a pinch-hit double and one RBI for the Flying Horses (7-3, 7-4).
Kyle Garrison doubled and drove in three runs for the Golden Knights (1-8, 2-9).
Catholic Central 2, Amsterdam 0: Jack LeRoux was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and then Brad Adams followed with a RBI walk to score the only runs of the ballgame for the Crusaders (6-5, 8-5).
Mike Doyle pitched six solid innings, striking out nine, for Catholic Central and Mike McFerran pitched a scoreless seventh.
Schenectady 15, Albany 6: Joe Borowski hit a grand slam and Zach Andi threw a complete game, striking out eight in the Big 10 victory for the Patriots (5-4, 6-5).
Josh Cocco hit a solo home run for the Falcons (2-7, 3-7).
Averill Park 4, Bethlehem 2: The Warriors (6-6, 7-8) got a complete game from Nick Cioffi and Brian Hardy scored the eventual game-winning run in the sixth inning.
Andrew Fasoldt had two hits for Averill Park, including a RBI double.
Brendan Behan and Tyler Kriss each drove in a run for the Eagles (2-10, 3-11).
Shenendehowa 12, Shaker 8: Branden Cogswell hit a home run and drove in three runs for the Plainsmen (11-1, 11-1), who also got a three-run triple from Scott Buniak.
Jeff Hoffman hit a two-run home run for the Blue Bison and Joe Snyder finished with three hits.
Guilderland 14, Mohonasen 1: Matt Zanotta hit a home run and both Tyler Hines and Jeremy Tobin had three hits for the Dutchmen (6-6, 7-8).
Niskayuna 10, Saratoga Springs 6: Aaron Wyngowski and Pat Zilberman hit home runs for the Silver Warriors (8-4, 10-4) in the Suburban Council victory over the Blue Streaks (8-4, 9-6).
Colonie 10, Columbia 2: Chris Kalica shone in a televised game at Joe Bruno Stadium, striking out eight Blue Devils in a complete game victory, adding a triple and a single at the plate.
Christian Fitzgerald added a double and a single for Colonie (8-4, 11-5).
Zac Larson hit a home run for Columbia (5-7, 5-9).
Voorheesville 14, Watervliet 8: Nico Church hit three doubles for the Blackbirds (4-6, 7-7) in a Colonial Council victory over the Cannoneers (2-8, 2-9).
Josh Veshia paced Watervliet with a double.
Loudonville Christian 8, Berlin 4: Alex MaLossi went 2-for-4 with a pair of triples, driving in two runs for the Eagles (8-2) in the CHVL victory.
Brian Halloway went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI for the Mountaineers (2-7, 2-11).
Germantown 9, Waterford 5: Ryan Clune went 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Fordians (6-2, 6-4) in the CHVL defeat at Germantown.
Larry Neibling paced the Clippers (8-0, 10-3) with two RBI.

Softball
Catholic Central 15, Bishop Maginn 0 (6): Hannah Kutny was 2-for-3 with a RBI and Amanda Case drove in three runs for the Crusaders (7-1, 11-3).
Troy 6, Schenectady 4 (8): Julie Brinkman and Liz Belleville combined for 12 strikeouts in a Big 10 Conference victory over the Lady Patriots.
Jamie Brinkman singled twice and drove in the go-ahead run for Troy (8-1, 9-5). Lauren Cooney added a double and two singles for the Flying Horses.
Lansingburgh 15, Watervliet 0 (5): Meg Volz drove in four runs and Sam Mattey knocked in three for the Knights (5-3, 7-5).
Sam Woitkoski struck out nine in the cir¬cle for Lansingburgh.
Schuylerville 4, Hoosic Valley 3: Morgan Kinney, Mikayla Wells, Stephanie Ostrander and Kiera Gallagher each drove in runs to lead the Black Horses to the victory.
Jenna Kyer hit a solo home run for the Indians.
Loudonville Christian 4, Berlin 3: Rosie Burgher collected two hits and scored a run, while Steph Gallom scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning to seal a CHVL victory for the Eagles (10-1, 10-2).
Germantown 10, Waterford 9 (8): The Fordians (8-2, 8-3) rallied for four runs in the seventh, but the Clippers (9-1) scored one in the eighth to pull out the victory.
Bethlehem 5, Averill Park 0: Mary Beth Dombrowksi hit two home runs and a triple, scoring three runs and driving in three in a Suburban Council victory for the Eagles (9-3, 12-3).
Shelbie Ballard also went 3-for-3 for Bethlehem, while Toni Edwards tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out 14.
Averill Park dropped to 2-9 in the Council and is 2-10 overall.

Girls Lacrosse
Albany Academy 19, Emma Willard 3: The Bears (7-0, 13-0) remained unbeaten, getting four goals from four different players in the win.
The Jesters (4-4, 4-7) had three different goal scorers.
Niskayuna 8, Saratoga 6: The Silver Warriors (9-2) got three goals from Kayla Treanor in the Suburban victory.
Julia Sirianni scored twice for the Blue Streaks (7-4).

Boys Lacrosse
Shenendehowa 7, Bethlehem 4: Mike Jenkins scored three goals as the Plainsmen posted the victory.

Boys Tennis
Guilderland 9, Averill Park 0: The Dutchmen topped the Warriors in Suburban Council action.
Bethlehem 9, Shenendehowa 0: The Eagles cruised to a Suburban Council victory.
