TROY - Just call the players on the Catholic Central baseball team the ‘comeback kids.’
The Crusaders rallied, getting three runs in the sixth inning to down Schenectady 7-4 and pull into third place in the Big 10 standings.
Mike Doyle pitched a complete game, four-hitter for Catholic Central (5-3, 7-3) and started the come-from-behind rally.
Doyle, who finished 2-for-2 on the afternoon, reached on a walk and came around to score when Nolan Driscoll had a base hit.
Rory Sweeney followed with a two-run double to complete the rally and down the Patriots (4-4, 6-4).
La Salle 18, Bishop Gibbons 3: Ryan Clarke hit a home run and drove in five runs, while scoring four times to lead the Cadets (7-1, 7-4) to the victory.
Zach Remillard drove in three runs, scored five times and had four hits.
Matt Butrym and Mike Gallagher each had two hits and scored a run for the Knights.
Hoosick Falls 20, Stillwater 3: Seth Foster singled three times and drove in three runs to spark the Panthers’ 16-hit attack en route to posting a Wasaren League triumph.
Tanner Williams doubled, singled twice and knocked in two runs for Hoosick Falls (4-2, 6-3) and Jake Colliano doubled and singled.
Brian Byer hit a home run and singled for the Warriors (0-7, 1-8).
Greenwich 9, Tamarac 0: Sophomore Jason Flynn tossed a two-hitter to propel the first-place Witches to victory in the Wasaren League.
Flynn didn’t issue a walk, struck out four and also doubled and drove in two runs for Greenwich (6-0, 10-1). Also for the Witches, Neil Fryer homered, doubled and knocked in four runs.
Guilderland 18, Averill Park 4: Matt Zanotta hit home runs No. 9, 10 and 11 of the 2010 season - one was a grand slam - in Guilderland’s Suburban Council victory over the Warriors.
Nick Cioffi singled three times and drove in a run for Averill Park (5-4, 6-6).
Columbia 11, Bethlehem 4: Scott Dulong hit a home run and doubled twice and Matt Kasper added a triple and two singles for the Blue Devils (5-4, 5-6).
Niskayuna 6, Shenendehowa 5: Aaron Wingowski tripled and singled for the Silver Warriors (5-4, 7-4), who knocked Shenendehowa (8-1, 8-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten Friday in Suburban Council action.
Albany Academy 1, Voorheesville 0: Hunter McCarthy tripled in the third inning and Albee Daley drove him in on a single with the game’s only run.
Cohoes 19, Cobleskill 4: Kyle Farley went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two driven in for the Tigers (3-5, 4-7) in a Colonial Council victory over the Bulldogs (1-5).
Waterford 7, Berlin 0: Josh White pitched a complete game three-hitter to lift the Fordians to victory in CHVL action.
Shaker 5, Saugerties 1: Derek Gardella doubled and drove in a run and Rob Derico sin¬gled home a run for the Blue Bison.
Softball
Catholic Central 2, Troy 0: Maddie Coneys spun a four-hitter, striking out 11 as the Crusaders blanked their crosstown rivals.
Catcher Kirstan Buchan delivered a two-run single in the first inning for Catholic Central (4-1, 7-3).
Julie Brinkman also allowed only four hits and struck out seven for Troy (5-1, 5-4).
Lansingburgh 5, Voorheesville 3: Catcher Meg Volz connected on a solo home run in the first inning and walked with the bases loaded to score the eventual winning run in the sixth inning.
Sam Woitkoski spun a four-hitter, striking out 11 for Lansingburgh (4-2, 5-3).
Columbia 7, Bethlehem 0: Meg Hallenbeck doubled and drove in two runs as the Blue Devils (8-1, 12-1) knocked the Eagles (8-1, 8-1) from the ranks of the undefeated in Suburban Council action in Delmar.
Brittany Hart singled twice and drove in two runs, scoring two runs for Columbia.
Shenendehowa 8, Niskayuna 0: Danny Amyot and Cameron Sprague combined to throw a three-hit shutout in a Suburban Council victory for the Lady Plainsmen (8-0, 10-0).
Greenwich 1, Tamarac 0: Greenwich’s starting pitcher, Sarah Heimbach, led off the sixth inning with a single and Meg O’Malley drove in her in later that inning on a single for the only run the Witches (3-4, 4-7) needed.
Hoosic Valley 5, Cambridge 4: Steph Lonczak led off the seventh inning with a triple and Whitney Kugler drove her in on a sacrifice fly to lift Hoosic Valley.
Loudonville Christian 13, Rensselaer 0: Alex Rollis struck out 12 and allowed just three hits in a CHVL victory for the Eagles (6-1, 6-2) over the Rams (3-4, 3-5).
Valerie King and Samantha Parry both went 2-for-4 at the plate for Loudonville.
Waterford 7, Berlin 2: Katie McGreevy struck out 10 hitters over seven inning and added two singles and an RBI at the plate for the Fordians (6-1, 6-2) in a CHVL victory over the Mountaineers (4-3, 4-5).
Maple Hill 13, Coxsackie-Athens 9: Destiny Lebrecht went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Heather Dugan went 3-for-4 with a double for the Wildcats in a Patroon Conference victory over the Indians.
Boys Lacrosse
Shaker 8, Burnt Hills 2: Jimmy O’Brien and Doug Swezey each scored three goals to propel the Blue Bison.
Dan Casale added two goals for Shaker.
Niskayuna 15, Ballston Spa 3: Brian Schlansker tallied five points, including four goals, to propel the Silver Warriors to a Suburban Council win.
Mark Panneton contributed three goals and an assist for Niskayuna.
Shenendehowa 16, Saratoga 4: Brandon Connors scored three goals to spark the Plainsmen to a Suburban Council win.
CBA 13, La Salle 2: Dan Sipperly fired in five goals as the Brothers defeated their arch-rival in a Big 10 match.
Girls Lacrosse
Shaker 12, Burnt Hills 5: Adrianne Devine scored three goals and assisted on three others to propel the Blue Bison to a Suburban Council tri¬umph.
Charlotte Rehfuss chipped in with two goals and an assist for Shaker.
Colonie 12, Averill Park 4: Lexi Brannigan totaled nine points, including three goals, to pace the Garnet Raiders to victory in the Suburban Council.
Saratoga Springs 13, Shenendehowa 4: Julia Dirianni scored six goals for the Blue Steaks (6-2, 6-4).
Holy Names 13, Emma Willard 9: Francesca Gundrum scored five goals for the Jesters, but Holy Names (2-3, 3-6) scored eight goals in the second half.
Sarah Ohanesian added a pair of goals for Emma Willard (3-4, 3-6).
Boys Tennis
La Salle 6, Albany 3: The Cadets (5-0, 5-1) defeated the Falcons in Big 10 Conference action by winning five of six singles matches.
Saratoga Springs 9, Averill Park 0: Zach Arpey defeated Averill Park’s Scott Richardson in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, leading the Blue Streaks to the Suburban Council victory over the Warriors.
Maple Hill 4, Ichabod Crane 3: The Wildcats won each of the top three singles matches.

ReplyDeleteAmyot and Sprague are two of the top pitchers in Section II, but are not well known by the press. Found this online.

The two pitchers that SHEN has this season are much better than Mandy Ferro.
