Robichaud leads a crop of Troy-area Section II wrestling champions

GLENS FALLS — La Salle Institute’s Zach Clemente (145 pounds) and Ken Altarac (285) repeated as Section II Division I champions Saturday at the New York State High School wrestling tournament qualifier held at Glens Falls Civic Center. Clemente and Altarac were state champions a season ago and they will defend their titles this weekend when the New York State tournament returns to Albany.

Brian Walsh of Watervliet was a Division II champion at 135 pounds, while Tamarac’s Jake Oswald captured the 140-pound crown. Taylor Robichaud from Hoosick Falls was a winner at 160.

Columbia’s Brian Latham, who carried an undefeated senior season record into the weekend, fell by a 19-8 decision to Glen Falls’ Nick Lashway in the 135-pound Division I final. Connor Sutton (112) and Jon Clemente (119) of La Salle also earned second place finishes, as did Columbia’s Adam Hullet (130). Lansingburgh’s Chad Obzud (171) and Nate Brown from Averill Park, at 285 pounds, were the other local Division I second place finishers.

Watervliet’s John Delaney (96), Cohoes’ Dustin Hallock (160) and Greg Mollnow (215) and Hoosick Falls’ Jeremy Burns (189) were among the local Division II second place grapplers.
